The Federal Communications Commission is preparing to impose significant new regulations to open the cable television market to independent programmers and rival video services after determining that cable companies have become too dominant in the industry, senior commission officials said.
Think it will ever happen? I doubt it. At least not in the near term.
Cable companies are among the poorest run companies in existence. They milk their customers like cash cows. Their service levels are abysmal. Yet they still lose money. Take away their mini-monopolistic status and they'll surely die.
This kind of talk will cause change if it persists though. Look for buyouts and/or consolidation. Let's see... who has money and a big stake in delivering content?
